Until recently the war against global warming was a relatively small and unknown one. Most people were not aware of the global warming science that struggles daily to inform the public of important data and facts about how we play a part in global warming. There have been movies made about large corporations polluting the environment and the stories dot the media. It is discerning the fact from the opinion that makes the issue so difficult.

The effects of global warming have long been under debate in the scientific community. MSNBC released a story about a group of researchers trying to discredit the argument of groups against global warming. Their research was that global warming was not factual. Unfortunately for their credibility it turns out they had analyzed their data incorrectly and in fact were wrong.

The environmental impact of fuels touches everyone as they pull up to the gas pump. All parties involved in arguing for or against global warming can agree on one thing. Eventually our fossil fuels, such as oil and coal, will eventually be depleted. We must find alternative energy sources and implement them on a daily basis. What does this have to do with global warming? It is the byproduct of burning fossil fuels that sparks the debates against global warming.

Climate warming is thought to occur when gases create a barrier preventing solar rays from exiting the atmosphere. Carbon Dioxide is a leading byproduct of burning oil, gasoline and coal. It is also a natural byproduct of animals and humans. Environmental groups argue that if humans would cut down their consumption of meat, there would be fewer animals producing gases. Is this true? That, like many of the other arguments for and against global warming, is under debate.

We do have choices when it comes to using fossil fuels. We can elect to install solar panels to help heat our homes. We can drive hybrid cars that cut the use of gasoline considerably. We can recycle paper, metal and plastics to help reduce landfills. Will this help in the global warming debate? It may help some by removing our dependence on oil companies.

No matter which side of the fence you are on, it pays to stay informed. The war against global warming will continue until all sides can reach an accord about our next steps. We only have one planet to call home and if there is to be a future home for our grandchildren, we must take care of it. Every little bit helps and knowledge is power.
